How Standards and Expectations are Changing

The adoption of the new Common Core Standards means that new expectations are being pushed in Kindergarten.  Long gone are the days of cutting and coloring all day.  Not only does a child need to learn his/her numbers, they are now expected to sequence, add/subtract, create word problems, determine more/less/equal, etc.  Our school has adopted new ways of teaching to reach the expectations of Common Core.  Above is a sample worksheet of Number Bonding.  This is a concept that helps with breaking apart and putting together numbers.  You need to familiarize yourself with these new techniques/concepts so that you will be an effective homework helper.  More examples can be found on my website.
